That Giant Hard Rock Hotel Guitar on the Strip? Yeah, It’s Kind of a Big Deal

If you haven’t driven down Las Vegas Boulevard lately, you'll notice that there’s a massive guitar-shaped skyscraper rising up from what used to be The Mirage, and it is already stealing the show and it’s not even done yet.

Hard Rock Hotel

The Giant Hard Rock Hotel Guitar

The Hard Rock Hotel guitar tower is well underway, and honestly, it’s hard to look at anything else when you’re walking or driving the Strip. Positioned right at the curve of Las Vegas Boulevard, the building sits in pretty much the perfect spot to dominate your line of sight no matter which direction you’re coming from.

Say Goodbye to That Trump Tower View

If you’ve cruised up the Strip from the south, you might remember that familiar bright golden tower of the Trump International Hotel. Yeah, it’s getting blocked by a massive guitar. The guitar tower is rising right into that sightline, and once it’s complete, Trump's Tower will barely be visible...sorry Mr President.

So How Tall Is This Thing Going to Be?

Hard Rock hotel construction
The official plan calls for the guitar to top out at 660 feet, which won’t even make it the tallest building on the Strip. That crown still belongs to Fontainebleau Las Vegas. The guitar will land at No. 3 on the tallest buildings list, sitting just below Resorts World Las Vegas and just above The Palazzo.

What’s Inside (and Outside)?

The guitar tower will house 675 hotel rooms and suites. You’ll also notice some interesting rounded floors along the sides of the building — those are likely locations for suites with seriously jaw-dropping views, though Hard Rock hasn’t spilled all the details yet.

Meanwhile, the original Mirage tri-corner towers are getting a full blown makeover. Workers have stripped them basically down to bare concrete...we’re talking drywall removed, everything gutted. The old gold and white color scheme is getting replaced with blue glass to match the guitar tower’s look, and LED horizontal light strips have already been spotted in test runs. The whole complex is shaping up to be one cohesive, rock-and-roll themed resort.

One thing worth noting: the building’s “neck” won’t physically extend upward. Instead, the renderings show it cut off at the body, with beams of light shooting up on the north end of the strip while the beacon of light from the Luxor will still remain from the south side of the strip. Let's not also forget the bright sphere that has already been lighting up the clouds with a magnificent show of colors.

When Does It Open?

The official target is a late 2027 opening, and given how fast construction has been moving, some are speculating it could actually arrive ahead of schedule. The pace of work on both the guitar tower and the Mirage renovation has been impressive, so don’t be surprised if Hard Rock announces an earlier opening than anyone expected. Hard Rock International picked up The Mirage from MGM Resorts back in 2022 for $1.075 billion, and they’ve been going full throttle on the transformation ever since.

Love it or hate it, the Hard Rock guitar tower is becoming one of the most recognizable structures on the Las Vegas Strip and it’s not even finished yet. Once doors open, this thing is possibly going to be the most booked hotel on the strip througout the year!
